Prof. Colombo discussed the difficulty that Suffolk County will face in attempting to “pierce the corporate veil” and hold the owners of a charitable corporation personally responsible for that corporation’s tax liability.

Commissioner Dora B. Schriro Delivers Commencement Address at Hofstra Law School
May 20th, 2010Commissioner Dora B. Schriro of the New York City Department of Correction addressed graduates at Hofstra Law School’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 16, 2010.
Commissioner Schriro was appointed to direct New York City’s 13,500 inmate jail system by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on September 21, 2009. Immediately prior, she had served as Special Advisor to Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Detention and Removal, and Director of the Office of Detention Policy and Planning for the Department.
Previously, Commissioner Schriro served for six years as the Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections and, from 1993 to 2001, as Director of the Missouri Department of Corrections. In each state, she was the first woman selected to lead the agency.

To Legal Writing Students: Practicing What We Preach,” 22 THE SECOND DRAFT 5 (No. 1 Fall 2007), was cited by Judge Gerald Lebovits in his October 2009 feature, The Legal Writer, published in the New York State Bar Association Journal. In the same feature, Judge Lebovits cited Professor Richard K. Neumann’s book, Legal Reasoning and Legal Writing: Structure, Strategy and Style 61 (4th ed. 2001).
