In recent years, the U.S. SupremeCourt has made a number ofimportant and potentiallylandmark decisions implicatinginternational relations andinternational law. Two of the mostimportant of these decisions examinedthe legal effect of an internationalcourt’s judgment within the Americanlegal law. In Sanchez-Llamas v. Oregonand Medellin v. Texas, the SupremeCourt considered petitions seeking touse judgments made by the UnitedNations’ principal judicial organ, theInternational Court of Justice, to setaside or order a new trial for individualsconvicted under American law.
