Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner Named One of Long Island’s Most Influential Women in Business for Third Consecutive Year
March 8th, 2010For the third successive year, Hofstra Law Dean Nora V. Demleitner has been named among Long Island's Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business by the Long Island Business News.
The awards gala will take place on Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 6-10 p.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club. As a third-time honoree, Dean Demleitner will be inducted by Long Island Business News into its Hall of Fame.
Hofstra Law Salutes 116 Alumni Justices at In Honor of Justice Dinner
February 3rd, 2010In tribute to its 116 alumni members of the judiciary, Hofstra Law School hosted an "In Honor of Justice" dinner at the Hilton New York Hotel on Thursday, January 28, 2010.
Held in conjunction with the New York State Bar Association Annual Meeting, this event helped to support the 2010 Public Justice Foundation Fellowships. This year's 2010 Public Justice Foundation Honoree was Neil Hernandez (Class of '95).
Among the alumni members of the judiciary are four justices currently serving on the New York State Appellate Division level. These special guests included: The Honorable Leonard B. Austin ('77), The Honorable Joseph Covello ('79), The Honorable Sallie Manzanet-Daniels ('88), and The Honorable Sandra L. Sgroi ('78).

Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner Speaks on Panel Entitled "Managing Expectations, Setting Goals, Stretching Leaner Budgets: A Conversation with the Deans"
January 11th, 2010On Thursday, January 7, 2010, Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner was a panelist for the AALS Section of Institutional Advancement's plenary on "Managing Expectations, Setting Goals, Stretching Leaner Budgets: A Conversation with the Deans." Joining Dean Demleitner on the panel were Michael Schill, the Dean at Chicago's Law School, and the heads of development at Chicago and Santa Clara Law School, respectively.
Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner Presents "Is There a More Just 'Fortress Europe'?"
November 11th, 2009On Friday, November 6, 2009, Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner served as a discussant at the American Society of Criminology annual meeting. The session focused on a policy proposal entitled "Toward a Smarter and More Just Fortress Europe: Combining Temporary Labor Migration and Effective Policies of Return.". Her response was entitled, "Is There a More Just 'Fortress Europe'?".
The policy and discussant papers have been published in a volume entitled Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice Policy (Natasha Frost, Joshua Freilich and Todd Clear, eds., 2009).

October 26th, 2009On Wednesday, October 21, 2009, Dean and Professor of Law Nora V. Demleitner and Professor Joanna L. Grossman participated in "Women in Law Symposium: Gender Equity Programs", sponsored by the Nassau County Bar Association. The event discussed the issues impacting professional women and how women are affected by the practice of law.
